Narrative:

On September 14, 2026, at approximately 2:00 a.m., deputies from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Headquarters Station responded to Motel 6, located at 3075 Johnson Drive in the City of Ventura, regarding a report of a victim who had possibly been battered and sustained serious bodily injury.
Although the incident occurred within the City of Ventura, Headquarters deputies quickly established the circumstances and location of the crime scene and, based on the nature of the incident and information developed during the initial investigation, assumed responsibility for the investigation. Deputies determined the victim had been severely battered and lost consciousness during the incident. When the victim regained consciousness, they discovered the suspect had taken their personal belongings.
Through their investigation, deputies identified the suspect as Sabrina Carlson, a local transient known to frequent the Ventura area, including the river bottom.
Headquarters detectives immediately began following up on leads regarding Carlson’s whereabouts. Recognizing the challenges associated with locating individuals living in the rugged river bottom terrain, detectives contacted members of the Sheriff’s Office Homeless Liaison Unit (HLU) for assistance. HLU deputies routinely work with individuals experiencing homelessness and have established relationships and familiarity with the areas where many of them reside.
Headquarters detectives, along with detectives from the West County Special Enforcement Unit (WCSEU) and members of HLU, worked together to locate Carlson. Utilizing information developed during the investigation and HLU’s knowledge of the surrounding terrain and encampment areas, deputies were able to locate Carlson and take her into custody without incident.
This investigation is another example of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office using the resources and specialized knowledge of multiple units to follow leads, locate suspects, and hold those accountable for serious crimes. The Sheriff’s Office takes crimes involving violence and the victimization of members of our community very seriously and will continue to utilize every available resource to investigate these cases thoroughly.
Carlson was booked into the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility for violations of Penal Code Section 211, Robbery; Penal Code Section 243(d), Battery with Serious Bodily Injury; and Penal Code Section 422(a), Criminal Threats. Carlson is currently being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
