BHPD Media Release - BHPD Announces Promotion of Kevin M. Orth to Captain

Beverly Hills, Calif. – The Beverly Hills Police Department (BHPD) is pleased to announce the promotion of Kevin M. Orth to the rank of Captain, effective September 19, 2026. Captain Orth will lead the Administrative Services Division, which includes the Personnel & Training, Records, and Communications bureaus, as well as the Department’s Budget Team.
 
Captain Orth’s career with BHPD spans 20 years, beginning as a Police Cadet in 2006 before becoming a Police Officer the following year. Over the course of his career, he has served in a variety of operational and leadership assignments, including Patrol Officer, DUI Enforcement Officer, Canine Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Detective Sergeant, and Patrol Lieutenant. His previous responsibilities have included oversight of patrol operations, the Field Training Officer Program, Canine Unit, and Crime Lab operations.
 
Since late 2024, Captain Orth has served as the Department’s Executive Officer within the Office of the Chief, overseeing the Professional Standards Unit, Community Relations Unit, Media Relations and public information functions, Reserve Unit, and Disaster Communication System volunteers.
 
Captain Orth holds a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. His advanced training includes POST Supervisory and Management Schools, the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy, and the San Diego County Regional Leadership Institute. He also holds POST Advanced, Supervisory, and Management Certificates.
 
Throughout his career, Captain Orth has received numerous honors, including the Allen H. Karlin Award for Exemplary Police Work, the MADD Award, the Masonic Police Award, and recognition as Beverly Hills Patrol Officer of the Year.
 
With extensive experience across the Department and a deep understanding of its operations, Captain Orth brings a strong foundation to his new role. His promotion reinforces BHPD’s commitment to strong, trusted leadership in service to the Beverly Hills community.
