On Sunday, September 20, 2026, at approximately 10:13 PM, officers from the Santa Maria Police Department were dispatched to a traffic collision involving a driver who was reportedly attempting to flee the scene.
During the incident, the suspect’s vehicle collided with and damaged seven parked vehicles before becoming disabled. The suspect’s passenger sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center Emergency Department for treatment.
The driver, identified as Angel David Landey, 32, was taken into custody and arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence (DUI).
SMPD would like to recognize and thank the numerous community members who immediately called to report the incident and those who assisted in detaining the suspect at the scene until officers arrived. Their quick actions and willingness to assist helped prevent the driver from leaving the area and potentially placing others at further risk.
SMPD reminds the community that impaired driving is preventable. If you have consumed alcohol or used any substance that may impair your ability to drive, do not get behind the wheel. Designate a sober driver, use a rideshare or taxi, or arrange another safe way home. One decision to drive impaired can have life-changing consequences for you, your passengers, and innocent members of the community.
