Full Notification

On September 21, 2026, at approximately 4:24 a.m., officers were dispatched to the walkway connecting South Eliseo Drive and Ladderman Lane in Larkspur following a report of a male subject carrying what appeared to be a rifle. A community member observed the individual and immediately notified police.
 
Officers arrived on scene within three minutes of dispatch and established a perimeter at both entrances to the walkway. Officers located the subject, who was carrying a confirmed shotgun, and issued multiple commands for the subject to drop the weapon. The subject ultimately complied and was taken into custody without further incident.
 
The subject was identified as Juan Lopez Lopez, a 30-year-old unhoused male from San Rafael, California. During the investigation, officers determined the shotgun was loaded with incorrect ammunition and safely rendered the firearm inoperable. Officers also located documents and other property belonging to multiple individuals in Lopez Lopez’s possession.

Further investigation revealed that Lopez Lopez was an active Marin County probationer with an outstanding arrest warrant. He was subsequently booked into the Marin County Jail on the warrant and the following charges:

• 29800(a)(1) PC – Felon in Possession of a Firearm
• 30305(a)(1) PC – Prohibited Person in Possession of Ammunition
• 25850(a) PC – Carrying a Loaded Firearm in Public
• 485 PC – Misappropriation of Lost Property
• 1203.2(a) PC – Probation Violation

We would like to thank the member of the community who promptly reported this incident. The timely report, combined with the rapid response of officers, contributed to the safe resolution of a potentially dangerous situation.
