Deputy James Day with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged 29-year-old Verquan Durell Young, of Marion, with felony Assault Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury. He was issued a $25,000 secured bond.
On Thursday, July 16, Deputy Day responded to a Marion residence after an assault was reported.
Upon arrival, Deputy Day spoke with the victim, who stated that Young had physically assaulted him following a verbal altercation. Deputy Day observed blood on the victim’s face, along with a visible deformity to his nose.
After an evaluation at Mission Hospital McDowell, it was confirmed that the victim had sustained multiple fractures to his nose.
Young was arrested on Friday, Sept. 11, and transported to the McDowell County Detention Center for processing.
