INCIDENT: Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center Reopens Following Completion of Phase One Renovations
LOCATION: San Bernardino County Correctional Facilities
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department announces the completion of phase one of the Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center’s (GHRC) remodeling project. The facility was temporarily closed in August 2024, for renovations and improvements.
On Saturday, September 19, 2026, the first renovated portion of GHRC reopened and is housing male inmates transferred from correctional facilities throughout the county.
The partial reopening will also enable the Department to begin renovations of outdoor inmate recreational areas at the High Desert Detention Center, part of ongoing efforts to upgrade county correctional facilities.
With the support of the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors, the Office of the Sheriff continues to invest in modernizing and improving correctional facilities throughout the county. These projects improve existing facilities while supporting the Department’s focus on rehabilitation and successful reentry.
“Reopening GHRC is an important step in improving our correctional facilities and expanding rehabilitation and reentry services,” said Sheriff Shannon Dicus. “I’m grateful for the support of the Board of Supervisors and the work of our dedicated staff and community partners who continue to make these efforts possible.”
Remodeling at GHRC will continue, with another phase expected to open later this year. The goal is to further expand reentry services at GHRC, connecting individuals with housing, mental health, and other supportive services before release.
