Deputy Elijah Allen with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged 46-year-old Brian Keith Hughes of Marion with felony possession of Methamphetamine. Hughes was issued a $7,500 secured bond.
On Saturday, September 19, deputies were conducting routine patrol in the North Cove area when they stopped at a local gas station. A short time later, they observed a man—later identified as Hughes—slumped over the steering wheel of a truck parked at a gas pump with its engine running. While checking on Hughes, deputies observed a clear plastic bag in plain view on the center console.
A search of Hughes and the vehicle turned up suspected methamphetamine and pills.
