MERIDIAN, Idaho — Meridian Police Department officers, along with deputies from the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, responded to Rocky Mountain High School today following a report that a juvenile male had accidentally shot another juvenile male inside the school.

The school was placed on lockdown while law enforcement officers responded and conducted a thorough search of the school. Meridian Fire Department and Ada County EMS also responded to the scene as a precaution.

Officers and deputies cleared the school and found no evidence of a shooting or injured person. The initial report was determined to be false and is being investigated as a swatting incident, in which a false emergency report is made with the intent of prompting a significant law enforcement response.

The lockdown was lifted once officers determined there was no threat to students or staff. The scene was cleared without incident.
