BOIL WATER ADVISORY — CITY OF WEST MINERAL
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has issued a boil water advisory for the City of West Mineral public water supply in Cherokee County. The advisory took effect September 24, 2026 and remains in effect until further notice.
A waterline break caused a loss of pressure in the distribution system, creating a risk of bacterial contamination. Until KDHE rescinds the advisory:
• Boil water for 1 minute before drinking or using it to prepare food, or use bottled water.
• Discard ice and do not use ice from automatic icemakers.
• If tap water appears dirty, let it run until clear.
• Disinfect dishes and food-contact surfaces by soaking them for at least 1 minute in 1 gallon of clean tap water mixed with 1 teaspoon of unscented household bleach.
• Bathing water generally does not need to be boiled. Supervise children and make sure they do not swallow the water. People with cuts or severe rashes may wish to consult a physician.
The advisory remains active until KDHE issues a rescind order following testing at a certified laboratory.
