Wilmington Police have arrested three men on gun charges following an investigation.
Members of the Gun Intelligence Unit have been conducting a firearm investigation into 23-year-old Andre Pierce and 22-year-old Cleve Wright. On September 18th at approximately 6:00 a.m., officers executed a search warrant in the 700 block of Maryland Avenue, at which time 19-year-old Jelani Ponzo fled from the residence. A short time later, Ponzo was located and taken into custody without further incident. Officers located Wright, who was taken into custody without incident. Officers recovered a loaded .9mm handgun with a “switch” attachment, a loaded rifle, two switch attachments, ammunition and a red dot optic. Officers confirmed the rifle was reported stolen out of the Ridley Township Police Department.
Subsequently, officers executed a search warrant in the unit block of Hickman Road in Claymont. Officers located Pierce and took him into custody without incident.
Pierce has been charged with the following offenses:
- Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $20,000 cash-only bail.
Wright has been charged with the following offense:
- Possession of a Destructive Weapon
He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and released after posting a $5,000 secured-bail.
Ponzo has been charged with the following offenses:
- Possession of a Destructive Weapon
- Resisting Arrest
He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $51,000 cash-only bail.
