The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for coastal Asbury Park as a coastal storm approaches, in effect tonight through Saturday night, with sustained winds of 30 to 40 mph and gusts up to 60 mph possible. A Wind Advisory is in effect inland. A Coastal Flood Warning is in effect through Saturday night, with periods of heavy rain also possible. Some roadways may become impassable. Highest tides are expected Saturday morning and Saturday night. Conditions may continue into Sunday depending on the storm's track.
City preparations: Public Works has serviced storm drains in flood-prone areas, cleaned streets to reduce leaves, trimmed dead limbs, and readied chainsaws, generators, and equipment. Wesley Lake has been lowered and will continue to be lowered, tide permitting.
Most outdoor events throughout the city, including Porch Fest, have been canceled or postponed. Please check with event organizers for more details.
What residents can do:
- Stay off the beach and out of the water. There is a high risk of rip currents through Sunday.
- Move vehicles out of flood-prone areas, especially near Wesley Lake, Sunset Lake, and Deal Lake.
- Do not drive through flooded roadways.
- Secure loose outdoor furniture and decorations that could blow around in high winds.
- In an emergency, or to report downed trees, blocked roads, or other hazards, call 911.
