The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from September 6^th to September 12^th, 2026.     

September 6th
Driving Under the Influence - Potrero Ave / I-80:
At 12:40 AM, officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for Driving Under the Influence. The driver was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, then released to a sober friend after being issued a citation.

Grand Theft – 11900 San Pablo Ave (Red Onion):
At 8:19 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole two bicycles from in front of the business.

September 7th
Warrant Arrest / Parole Violation / False ID to Police - Kearney Street / Cutting Blvd.
At 1:00 PM, officers responded to the area regarding a suspect from the previous night’s domestic violence case who had returned to the area. The suspect was detained, and provided their brother’s identifying information as their own. Once the suspect’s true identity was discovered, they were found to be on parole and had several active warrants for their arrest. They were arrested on the warrants and the parole violation, in addition to the domestic violence and other charges from the previous evening. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Public Intoxication – 7400 block of Seaview Place:
At 6:01 PM, an officer was dispatched to the area regarding an intoxicated female who had fallen over. The female was found to be heavily intoxicated and transported to Kaiser by ambulance. A case will be written and forwarded to the district attorney's office for prosecution.

Driving Under the Influence – Liberty Street / Key Blvd:
At 1:31 AM, officers responded to a report of an intoxicated driver. The officer arrested the driver for Driving Under the Influence. The driver was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and later transported to Martinez Detention Facility.
 
September 8th 
Vandalism – 11450 San Pablo Ave (Safeway):
At 7:57 AM, an officer reports a suspect threw rocks at the Safeway building causing damage. The suspect was found to be mentally unstable and was committed per 5150 W&I. A vandalism case will be forwarded to the district attorney's office for review.

Burglary – 6200 block of Cypress Ave:
At 11:31 AM, an officer reports a suspect entered a vacant rental unit and was squatting in the unit for at least one night. Personal property left behind led to identification of a possible suspect. The keys and garage door opener remote for the unit were taken and later recovered.

Shoplift / Theft with Priors – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshall’s):
At 2:05 PM, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a suspect for shoplifting merchandise from Marshall’s. The suspect denied the accusation, but was wearing some of the stolen clothing when they were detained. A review of the suspect’s criminal history revealed sufficient prior convictions to qualify for a Petty Theft with Priors charge to be added. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Shoplift / Theft with Priors – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshall’s):
During the investigation of the above shoplift, the suspect was identified by Marshall’s loss prevention as the same suspect from another shoplift on 9/6. The suspect was wearing the sweatshirt he stole in this incident when they entered the store to commit the second shoplift. The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney for review.

Vehicle Theft – 11755 San Pablo Ave (Honda of El Cerrito):
At 2:40 PM, an unidentified suspect used a ruse to get the keys to a new vehicle, then drove the vehicle off the lot.

Warrant Arrest – 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS):
At 7:50 PM, an officer arrested a suspect on three warrants. The suspect was booked at El Cerrito Police Department. The suspect was transported to Martinez Detention Facility. 

Vehicle Theft Attempt – 10200 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 7:59 PM, a suspect attempted to steal the victims vehicle.
 
September 9th

September 10th 
Lost or Stolen License Plate – 500 block of Norvell Street:
At 5:06 PM, an officer took a report of a stolen license plate.

Battery – 900 block of Pomona Ave:
At 6:36 PM, an officer reports the victim was struck by the suspect.

September 11th
Grand Theft - 3400 block of Santa Clara Avenue:
At 4:23 AM, an officer reports a catalytic converter was stolen from the victim's vehicle.

Shoplift / False Information to the Police / Warrant Arrest – 11048 San Pablo Ave (Harbour Freight):
At 7:10 PM, an officer was flagged down in regards to a theft that had just occurred. The officer detained the suspect while they were trying to walk away with the unpaid merchandise. The suspect was positively identified and placed under Citizen’s Arrest. During booking, the suspect gave a false name to the officer. The suspect was identified via thier fingerprints and was found to have an active warrant. After booking, the suspect was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – Eureka Ave / Kearney Street:
At 7:22 PM, an officer located the victim’s stolen vehicle that was reported stolen earlier in the day.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 1700 block of Lexington Ave:
At 9:57 PM, an officer located the victim’s stolen vehicle that was reported to be stolen to the Oakland Police Department. The vehicle was released to the victim at the scene.

September 12th
Driving Under the Influence – Central Ave / Yosemite Ave:
At 1:40 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for Driving Under the Influence. The driver was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. After booking, the driver was issued a citation and released to a sober friend.

Brandishing a Weapon – 11344 San Pablo Ave (Denny’s):
At 1:34 AM, an officer reports an employee asked a subject to leave the business. As the subject was leaving the business, they brandished a knife and pointed a metal cane at the employee.
