The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from September 13th to September 19th, 2026.     
 
September 13th
Driving Under the Influence / Driving on a Suspended License – San Pablo Ave / Moeser Lane:
At 3:20 AM, officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for Driving Under the Influence. During a records check, officers discovered the subject’s driver’s license was suspended. The subject was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. After booking, the subject was issued a citation and released to a sober friend.

Auto Burglary -  5600 block of Poinsett Ave:
At 11:31 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect broke into two vehicles and stole property.

September 14th
Grand Theft – 600 block of Liberty Street:
At 6:18 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole the catalytic converter from the victim’s vehicle sometime overnight.

September 15th
Vandalism – 2300 Gloria Street:
At 2:27 AM, an officer reports an unknown suspect damaged the victim’s property.

Auto Burglary / Assault with a Deadly Weapon / Hit and Run – 100 block of San Carlos Ave:
At 3:19 AM, officers responded to the area for an Auto Burglary in progress. Upon arrival the suspects attempted to flee in their vehicles by driving past officers. In the process, one of the suspect vehicles collided into a patrol vehicle. Officers pursued the suspects out of city limits and lost them.

Identity Theft - 1000 block of Arlington Blvd:
At 10:36 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect used the victim’s identifying info to apply for credit.  The application was rejected and there was no loss.

Shoplift / Petty Theft with Priors / Vandalism – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshall’s):
At 12:40 PM, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a suspect as they exited the store with unpaid merchandise. While they were inside the store, the suspect also urinated and defecated on other merchandise destroying it. The suspect complained of medical issues and was released on a citation to be transported to Kaiser Richmond by ambulance. Once their criminal history was received, it was determined they met the criteria for 666.1 PC. The Petty Theft with Priors charge will be added to the case and forwarded to the district attorney's office for review.

Shoplift / Petty Theft with Priors – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshall’s):
While dealing with the suspect in the above case, the officer also accepted the citizen’s arrest of another suspect as they exited the store with unpaid merchandise. Based on their medical condition, they were also issued a citation and transported to Kaiser Richmond by AMR. Case to be forwarded to the district attorney's for review.

Grand Theft – 1400 block of Scott Street:
At 6:36 PM, the victim reported their catalytic converter had been stolen from their vehicle.

Vandalism – 11861 San Pablo Ave (Starbucks):
At 8:16 PM, an employee reported the suspect broke items inside the store and fled prior to police arrival. 
 
September 16th
Organized Retail Theft - 11430 San Pablo Ave (Pet Food Express):
At 10:53 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect stole pet food.  The suspect dumped the bags in the trunk of a waiting vehicle, which then fled. The suspect then entered a different vehicle and fled.

Vandalism / Petty Theft – Moeser Lane / Shevlin Drive:
At 10:54 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect cut the hasp for the electronics box on the city radar trailer and stole property.

Identity Theft – 1000 block of King Drive:
At 2:55 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect made two purchases on the victim’s credit card without authorization.

Petty Theft – 10300 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 10:40 PM, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s ring camera.

Possession of Burglary Tools / Probation Violation / Warrant Arrest – S. 55^th Street / Bayview Ave.
At 2:19 AM, officers conducted a pedestrian stop on two subjects after observing them checking car door handles in the area. One subject had a felony warrant, and the other subject was in possession of burglary tools and on probation. Both subjects were placed under arrest and were transported to Martinez Detention Facility.

September 17th
Petty Theft - 2000 block of Key Blvd:
At 6:09 AM an officer reports that a victim was asleep on a bench and when he woke up he saw a suspect riding away on their bicycle. 

Petty Theft - 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky):
At 6:58 officers were dispatched to the report of a theft from the store. An officer found the suspect in another part of El Cerrito Plaza. They were positivly identified by store employees, and placed under Citizen's Arrest. Theye were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and then issued a citation and released.   
 
Located Stolen Vehicle - 2100 block of Harper Street:
At 12:30 PM a Community Service Officer located a vehicle that was reported stolen from Milpitas. The vejhicle was recovered and towed away.  

September 18th
Shoplift - 11565 San Pablo Avenue (Walgreens):
At 10:01 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect exited the business with unpaid merchandise.

Warrant Arrest - San Pablo Ave / Ohio Ave:
At 11:43 PM, an officer conducted a bicycle stop and arrested the subject for an active warrant. The subject was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. After booking, the subject was released on a citation.

September 19th
Petty Theft with Priors - 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS):
At 9:59 AM officers were dispatched to the report of a shoplifting. An officer located the suspect at a different location in the El Cerrito Plaza. The suspect was identified by CVS employees and placed under Citizen's Arrest. Afetr being booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, the suspect was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
