A Wind Advisory and Coastal Flood Warning are in effect for Hoboken, issued by the National Weather Service, due to a forecasted nor’easter.  

Coastal flooding is likely at low-lying areas of the waterfront. Flooding may also be possible in western Hoboken due to rain or significant storm surge from the Hudson River. 

Coastal flooding likely & Waterfront Walkway to close 

A Coastal Flood Warning is now in effect through 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27. Forecasts indicate minor to moderate flooding at low-lying parts of the Hoboken waterfront with 1 to 2 feet of inundation possible particularly during high tide. Upcoming high tides include today at 8:15 p.m. and tomorrow at approximately 8:50 a.m. and 9 p.m. Sunday high tides are at approximately 9:25 a.m. and 9:45 p.m.  

As a precaution, the waterfront walkway, Maxwell Park, Pier A, Pier C, and Sinatra Park will be closed starting on Saturday at 6 a.m. through Sunday at 12 p.m. Please plan extra travel time and use detours.  

Sinatra Drive between Fourth Street and Sinatra Drive North will be closed to all traffic by the Hoboken Police Department when needed.

Properties along the waterfront with deployable flood barriers should consider deploying them to protect property from potential storm surge throughout the nor’easter. 

Rain is also forecasted for Saturday and Sunday 

Low-lying areas of Hoboken can experience flooding if the city gets more than 0.8 inches of rain per hour.  

The Office of Emergency Management has staged barricades at certain areas along the waterfront as well as in low-lying, flood-prone areas, to be deployed if and when necessary. DO NOT drive around or move barricades. They are deployed for your safety. Floodwaters can be deeper than they appear and cause vehicles to stall, impacting emergency response times.  

North Hudson Sewerage Authority (NHSA) has been clearing catch basins to assist with drainage. To report clogged catch basins, please contact the NHSA hotline at (866) 689-3970 for the quickest response. 

Secure Loose Objects  

A Wind Advisory is in effect through Sunday at 6 a.m. with winds of 25 mph and gusts up to 45 mph possible. Winds can blow unsecured objects, down tree limbs, and cause power outages.  

Please report downed trees to the Hoboken Fire Department at 201-420-2004. 

Residents should secure all loose objects outside or bring them inside and charge all necessary devices.  

Heavy winds can also impact driving. Please allow extra travel time and use caution if driving. Residents are encouraged to stay home and limit travel if possible. 

Due to anticipated high winds, OEM has advised large contractors to secure construction sites and DPW staff are also removing all wire trash cans. 

OEM is also in communication with PSE&G, who has crews on standby in case of power outages during the storm. Residents are reminded to report any power outages to PSE&G at 1-800-436-7734 or https://nj.pseg.com/outageandgasleaks.     

Weekend Cancellations & closures 

All Hoboken Public Library locations will be closed on Saturday. 

River City Fair has been rescheduled to Saturday, Oct. 3 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Pier A and Sinatra Drive from First to Fourth Streets.  

City recreation programs have been cancelled for Saturday and Sunday.  

Saturday’s Farmers Market under the 14th Street Viaduct has been cancelled.  

Limited Boil Water Advisory Reminder 

Hoboken community members from Second Street to 12th Street and Bloomfield Street to Sinatra Drive are also under a Boil Water Advisory due to a water main break caused by contractor error.  

The Boil Water Advisory is a necessary precaution due to the drop in water pressure according to Veolia and the NJDEP. 

Community members within this area must boil water for 1 minute and allow it to cool even if they have a water filter before all consumption, including the following:  

• drinking
• cooking  
• baking 
• washing dishes  
• making ice cubes  
• taking medication 
• brushing teeth 
• washing food 
• mixing baby formula 
• mixing juices or drinks 
• feeding pets  
• or other consumption
