Incident: Juvenile Arrested for Felony Vandalism
On Wednesday, September 23, at approximately 11:20 p.m., Petaluma Police officers conducting proactive patrol in the area of East Washington Street and Garfield Drive observed an individual actively spray-painting graffiti on a concrete sound wall along East Washington Street.
As officers turned their patrol vehicle around to contact the individual, he fled the area on a bicycle. Officers activated their emergency lights and attempted to stop him. The individual ultimately stopped near the intersection of Garfield Drive and Aaron Court and was detained without incident.
During the investigation, officers identified the individual as a 15-year-old Petaluma resident. Officers located three cans of spray paint inside his backpack and documented multiple areas of fresh graffiti on the sound wall. Officers also observed what appeared to be fresh paint residue on the juvenile’s hand.
The juvenile was arrested and subsequently booked into Juvenile Hall for 594(b)(1) PC – Felony Vandalism.
Because the suspect is a juvenile, his identity will not be released.
The Petaluma Police Department recognizes the impact graffiti, and vandalism can have on neighborhoods, businesses, and public spaces throughout our community. Proactive patrol and timely reporting from community members can assist officers in identifying those responsible for vandalism and preventing additional property damage.
