The nor'easter has arrived.
Winds are gusting 40–45 mph, and the National Weather Service has a Wind Advisory in effect until 6 AM Sunday. Today, expect on-and-off rain bands with some dry breaks, and strong gusts all day and into tonight. Rain becomes steadier tonight, and the heaviest rain falls overnight into Sunday morning, roughly 2 AM to 2 PM. Steady rain then continues through Sunday night. Rain forecasts range from 1.5 to 3 inches, with about 2 inches most likely. Expect flooding in low-lying and poor-drainage areas.
Please use today to prepare: secure outdoor furniture and trash cans, clear leaves from storm drains near your home, and charge your devices in case of power outages. Never drive through flooded roads, and stay away from downed trees and wires. We will continue to monitor conditions and post updates.
The Cranford Department of Public Works and OEM Leadership is monitoring the Rahway River and has followed storm preparation procedures in line with the expected rainfall. Some trees have been reported down, and Cranford DPW is responding to removes those obstacles from roadways. Although there is not a State of Emergency Declaration for Union County, it is advisable to limit travel today and tomorrow because of high wind gusts and the marginal possibility of flooding in roadways.
