The Ocean Township Office of Emergency Management is closely monitoring the nor’easter that has impacted our area today.

Please see the attached National Weather Service briefing for the latest information regarding the ongoing nor’easter. Our primary concerns continue to be tidal flooding, strong winds and additional rainfall through Sunday.

Ocean Township experienced moderate to major tidal flooding during this morning’s high-tide cycle, with impacts to several of our low-lying bayside areas. We are still forecast to experience moderate tidal flooding with tonight’s high tide, currently around 11:06 PM in Waretown/Barnegat Bay. The NWS indicates that the greatest remaining coastal flooding impacts are expected with tonight’s high tide, with slightly lower levels anticipated during Sunday morning’s cycle. Some bayside roadways may become impassable again.

Waretown / Barnegat Bay High Tides:

• Saturday: 11:06 PM
• Sunday: 11:25 AM and 11:46 PM

Strong north to northeast winds will also continue into Sunday morning. Sustained winds of 30–40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph remain possible, while inland areas could experience gusts of 30–50 mph. Winds are expected to gradually subside from south to north beginning tonight.

Additional rainfall remains a concern, with another 1–3 inches possible across much of New Jersey, with locally higher amounts possible. Poor-drainage and flooding may occur with heavier rainfall, and runoff could further exacerbate coastal flooding.

The State of Emergency for Ocean County remains in effect.

Please DO NOT drive through flooded roadways unless absolutely necessary. Water depth can be difficult to determine, and conditions can change quickly. We are also asking everyone to be mindful of our residents and their property. DO NOT create wakes when driving through standing or flooded water. Vehicle wakes can push water onto neighboring properties, into homes, and against vehicles, causing additional damage to our residents. If you encounter a flooded roadway, turn around and find an alternate route. Do not take unnecessary risks

Residents in low-lying areas prone to flooding who are concerned about their vehicles may use alternate parking areas along Railroad Avenue and the baseball fields. Vehicles should be moved before flooding occurs. Please leave your contact information on a piece of paper on the dashboard.
