Coastal Storm & Flooding
The Ocean Township Office of Emergency Management is continuing to closely monitor the nor’easter that has impacted our area.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve later today; coastal flooding and strong winds remain concerns through this morning.
Coastal flooding remains our primary concern this morning. The NWS is forecasting minor to moderate tidal flooding, with spotty major flooding possible. The greatest impacts are expected with this morning’s high-tide cycle. Widespread flooding of low-lying and bayside roadways remains possible, and some roadways may become impassable. Additional minor flooding is possible with this evening’s high tide.
Waretown / Barnegat Bay High Tides:
- Sunday: approximately 11:25 AM and 11:46 PM
Strong north to northeast winds will continue this morning before gradually diminishing this afternoon. A High Wind Warning remains in effect for coastal Ocean County through noon, with sustained winds of 30–40 mph and gusts of 50–60 mph possible.
Additional rainfall of approximately 1–1.5 inches is possible across much of New Jersey, with locally higher amounts possible. While significant freshwater flooding is not expected, poor-drainage flooding remains possible, and additional runoff could worsen coastal flooding around this morning’s high tide.
Please DO NOT drive through flooded roadways unless absolutely necessary. Water depth can be difficult to determine, and conditions can change quickly. We are also asking everyone to be mindful of our residents and their property. DO NOT create wakes when driving through standing or flooded water. Vehicle wakes can push water onto neighboring properties, into homes, and against vehicles, causing additional damage to our residents. If you encounter a flooded roadway, turn around and find an alternate route. Do not take unnecessary risks
