Every year, regional partners for clean water and a healthy environment host a community hazardous waste collection day, known as Clean Sweep. Clean Sweep 2026 for residents will be held on Saturday, October 10, from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Now in its 30th year, Clean Sweep provides a safe disposal venue by collecting chemicals and other materials that pose a threat to public health, water, and the environment.
Register online through Thursday, October 1 at cleansweepdelaware.eventbrite.com or call 607-865-6474. You’ll be assigned a time and place to show up.
Waste Materials Collected at Clean Sweep 2026 (keep in original containers):
• Pesticides & poisons
• Automotive solvents, degreasers & brake fluid
• Acids and caustics
• Batteries (all types)
• Flammable liquids, gasoline mix, antifreeze
• Oils, stains, varnishes & preservatives
• Adhesives, glues & driveway sealers
• Photograph chemicals & chemistry sets
• Chlorine, pool & spa chemicals
• Tars, creosote & asphalt sealers
• Mercury thermometers, switches & thermostats
• Fluorescent bulbs, mercury lights & ballasts
• Sharps, syringes & lancets (these items are also accepted at many local hospitals)
• Paint (keep in original containers, no need to let dry, DO NOT consolidate, no limit during Clean Sweep) Also accepted all year at the Solid Waste Management Center, 20 gallon limit
NOT ACCEPTED:
Ammunition, asbestos, biological or medical wastes, electronics, explosives, flares, fireworks, radioactive wastes, tires, smoke detectors, or items regularly accepted at the Solid Waste Management Center.
Clean Sweep is free to farmers and free to all Delaware County household residents. Delaware County businesses, municipalities, and county agencies are also invited to properly dispose of waste materials. Disposal services for businesses and municipalities are provided “at cost” with a cost estimate based on an itemized disposal list.
