The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office has been made aware of an online scam targeting students as they return to school. Scammers are creating look-alike apps that, when downloaded, will generate a pop-up notification that the student’s device has been infected with malware. The notification instructs the student to call a phone number so that the device can be scanned. The scammer will suggest calling another number for “Customer Support”. The second caller will ask for passwords and online banking information.
