The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from September 20th to September 26th, 2026.
September 20th
Driving Under the Influence – San Pablo Ave / Lincoln Ave:
At 11:06 PM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for Driving Under the Influence. The driver was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. After booking, the driver was issued a citation and released to a sober friend.
September 21st
Warrant Arrest – 11900 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 5:33 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for an active warrant. The driver was taken into custody and transported directly to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Petty Theft – 1700 block of Liberty St:
At 7:08 AM, an officer took a telephone report of theft from an unlocked vehicle that occurred sometime overnight.
Prowling / Parole Violation – 1700 block of Lexington Ave:
Approximately 7:40 AM, an officer reports the arrest of a suspect after they were caught in the carport area of an apartment building collecting items and placing them at the curb. A neighbor chased the suspect out of the car port with an axe handle after the suspect swung an iron by its cord at people. The suspect was on Post Release Community Supervision. They were booked at the El Cerrtio Police Department and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Grand Theft – 1200 block of Everett Street:
At 11:05 AM, an officer took a lobby report for theft of a catalytic converter. Time of occurrence was between 9:00 AM on 9/15 and 10:00 AM on 9/16.
Warrant Arrest / Possession of Drugs and Paraphernalia – 11800 block of San Pablo Ave.
At 9:50 PM, officers conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested the subject for two outstanding warrants. The subject was also in possession of drugs and paraphernalia. The subject was issued a citation for the possession charges and transported to Martinez Detention Facility on the warrants.
September 22nd
Robbery – 11965 San Pablo Ave:
At 4:00 AM an unidentified suspect took the victim’s cell phone at knifepoint, then returned the phone in exchange for the victim’s bicycle.
Warrant Arrest – Potrero Ave / Richmond Street:
At 3:20 PM, during a traffic stop an officer field cited a subject on a San Benito County warrant.
Vandalism – 10600 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 10:55 PM, the victim’s car tires were slashed by a known suspect. The suspect fled prior to police arrival.
Residential Burglary / Stolen Vehicle – 6500 block of Eureka Ave.
At 1:00 AM, officers responded to a residential burglary that just occurred. The owners woke to find a subject inside their residence. The subject stole several items from inside the house to include the victim’s car keys. The suspect fled in the victim’s vehicle prior to police arrival.
Warrant Arrest – Central Ave / Yosemite Ave:
At 1:22 AM, officers conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested a subject with an outstanding warrant. The subject was later transported to Martinez Detention Facility.
Grand Theft – 2600 block of Francisco Way:
At 4:39 AM, the victim reported their catalytic converter stolen.
September 23rd
Vandalism – Eureka Avenue / Bart Path (Centennial Park):
At 8:13 AM, an officer took a vandalism report because three of the climbing net ropes were cut over a month ago.
Battery – 5300 block of Cypress Ave:
At 12:24 PM, an officer reports the victim was punched on their face by an unidentified suspect.
Grand Theft – 5600 block of Poinsett Ave:
At 2:11 PM, a Community Service Officer took a report for theft of a catalytic converter between 6:00 PM on 9/22 and 5:00 PM on 9/23.
False Fire Alarm / Trespass / Resist Arrest – 10203 San Pablo Ave:
At 2:40 PM, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a suspect after they pulled the fire alarm four times in the past week, with two incidents today. Each activation brought a response from the fire department. The suspect has also been staying with residents in violation of their leases and refused to leave the property when instructed by staff. The suspect was seated at the top of a stairwell between two apartment doors and refused to submit to arrest. The suspect fought and struggled with officers, and had to be carried down the stairs and proned out on the sidewalk to be handcuffed. The suspect was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Residential Burglary – 6800 block of Snowdon Ave:
At 6:40 PM, officers responded to an alarm from the residence. Officers arrived on scene to find forced entry. The house was cleared and no suspects were located.
Residential Burglary – Wildwood Place:
At 7:05 PM, the owner was home when they heard glass breaking. As the owner investigated, they saw two suspects running from the rear of the residence. The suspects fled in a vehicle prior to police arrival.
Assault with a Deadly Weapon / Criminal Threats / Court Order Violation / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – 500 block of Albemarle Street:
At 11:10 PM, officers were dispatched to a report of the son who choaked his mother and threatened to kill everyone. The suspect fled prior to police arrival and was located a few blocks away. The suspect had an active protection order against him and was found in possession of drug paraphernalia. The suspect was arrested and later transported to Martinez Detention Facility.
Vehicle Tampering – 5400 block of MacDonald Ave:
At 1:42 AM, officers responded to the report of a catalytic converter theft in progress. The suspects fled prior to police arrival. The theft was not completed.
September 24th
Grand Theft – 7901 Cutting Blvd (Berkeley Country Club):
At 8:47 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect stole golf clubs from an unattended golf cart between 4:40 – 7:50 PM on 9/10.
Shoplifting / Petty Theft with Priors / Possession of Drugs and Paraphernalia – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreens):
At 8:49 PM, officers were dispatched to a theft in progress. The suspect was detained and placed under citizen’s arrest. The suspect also qualified for petty theft with priors and was in possession of drugs and paraphernalia. The suspect was later transported to Martinez Detention Facility.
September 25th
Vandalism – 11450 San Pablo Ave (Safeway):
At 6:57 PM, an officer reports the suspect was cursing inside the store when store security asked them to leave. While walking towards the front of the store, the suspect knocked over several displays causing damage.
Grand Theft - 10636 San Pablo Ave:
At 8:16 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s property from in front of the business.
September 26th
Driving Under the Influence – San Pablo Ave / Potrero Ave:
At 2:17 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for Driving Under the Influence. The driver was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. After booking, the driver was issued a citation and released to a sober relative.
Theft with Priors / Possession of a Controlled Substance - 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross):
At 9:32 PM, officers responded to the business on a report of three suspects concealing items into bags. While officers were responding the suspects had fled the business with unpaid merchandise. Officers located two of the suspects at the El Cerrito Plaza BART Station and detained them. The suspects were positively identified during an infield show-up and placed under Citizen’s Arrest by an employee. During a search incident to arrest, the suspects were found to be in possession of a controlled substance. During a records check, it was discovered both suspects had two prior theft convictions. Due to medical issues with both suspects were transported away by ambulance. this case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
