MARION MAN GETS CHARGES AFTER BREAKING INTO MULTIPLE VEHICLES AND BUILDING

Deputy Caleb Baliles with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged 40-year-old Travis Paul Cook of Marion with six counts of felony Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle; felony Larceny after Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle; felony Breaking and Entering; misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana (up to ½ ounce); and misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Cook was issued a secured bond of $100,000.

On September 27, Deputy Baliles responded to a residence in the West Marion area following a report of a breaking-and-entering incident. Before he arrived, the caller stated that the suspect had fled the area on foot after being confronted.

Upon arrival, Deputy Baliles spoke with the victim, who stated that Cook had entered his building and was in the process of stealing items when the victim spotted and confronted him. The victim also reported that Cook had entered multiple vehicles on the property.

A short time later, Deputy Baliles spotted Cook along the wood line at the back of the property after the victim’s dogs started barking.
After detaining Cook, Deputy Baliles searched him and found multiple items belonging to the victim, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
This incident remains under investigation.
