Rip Current Statement until 08:00PM Tuesday
* WHAT...Dangerous rip currents expected.
* WHERE...South Carolina Beaches, and Georgia Beaches.
* WHEN...From Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening.
* IMPACTS...Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...High surf with breaking waves of 4 to 6 feet along the lower South Carolina coast and 5 to 7 feet along the Georgia coast will occur. The combination of strong northeast winds, elevated tides and large breaking waves will increase the risk for significant beach erosion. A High Surf Advisory may be issued for Tuesday and Tuesday night.
* AFFECTED AREAS: COASTAL BRYAN ... COASTAL CHATHAM ... COASTAL LIBERTY ... COASTAL MCINTOSH ... BEAUFORT ... COASTAL COLLETON ... CHARLESTON ... COASTAL JASPER
Instructions:
Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
