INCIDENT: Traffic Stop Leads to Recovery of a Loaded Handgun and Arrest of a Convicted Felon
LOCATION: Bear Valley Road and Seventh Avenue, Hesperia
SUSPECT(1): Rupert Lewis, 49-year-old, Resident of Los Angeles
SUMMARY: On October 1, 2026, at approximately 7:53 p.m., investigators with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Hesperia Gang Investigations Team conducted a traffic stop near Bear Valley Road and Seventh Avenue.
During the traffic stop, deputies identified the driver as Rupert Lewis. Lewis was found to be a known gang member and convicted felon. During the investigation, deputies located a loaded handgun inside the vehicle.
Lewis was arrested and booked at the High Desert Detention Center for PC29800(a)(1) - Felon in possession of a Firearm, and PC 30305(a)(1) - Felon in possession of ammunition.
