The Oakland Police Department's (OPD) Robbery Unit, with support from OPD’s Specialized Units, has arrested suspects in three recent violent robbery cases.
On August 19, 2026, a masked suspect armed with a rifle entered a store in the 2600 block of 14th Avenue, pointed the weapon at an employee, and demanded money. The employee grabbed a firearm, and both exchanged gunfire. Thankfully, no one was struck by the gunfire.
On August 27, 2026, a robbery occurred in the 1600 block of 8th Avenue. A woman was injured when a suspect stole her purse and left the area in a waiting vehicle.
Investigators used video surveillance, license plate recognition technology, and other methods to link both incidents to the same suspect.
On September 10, 2026, Robbery Unit investigators and officers from OPD’s Ceasefire Section and Special Resource Section (SRS) arrested the 28-year-old suspect without incident. An adult woman accompanying the suspect was also arrested on an outstanding warrant and firearm-related charges after officers recovered a loaded handgun. A follow-up search warrant led to the recovery of two loaded, illegal AR-style pistols and an unregistered pistol.
On September 3, 2026, in an unrelated case, a food delivery driver was assaulted during a robbery attempt. The suspect tried to take merchandise from the driver’s vehicle, punched the driver several times, and attempted to strike him with a metal hand truck before leaving the scene. Investigators linked the suspect’s vehicle to a robbery in a neighboring city. Investigators took a 44-year-old male suspect into custody on September 17, 2026.
The Alameda County District Attorney's Office has charged both suspects with multiple felonies related to their respective crimes.
