City Offices Closed Friday, October 9 for Employee Appreciation Day
The City of East Chicago announces that City offices will be closed on Friday, October 9, 2026, in observance of Employee Appreciation Day.
Mayor Anthony Copeland has declared October 9 as Employee Appreciation Day in recognition of the dedication and service of City employees, particularly their extraordinary efforts in responding to and supporting the community following the August 11, 2026 derecho storm.
In recognition of their hard work and commitment to the residents of East Chicago, City employees will receive the day as a paid day off.
Departments responsible for public safety, emergency response, continuous operations, and other essential City services will remain operational as necessary. Employees required to work on October 9 will receive holiday pay in accordance with applicable City policies, collective bargaining agreements, and departmental requirements.
The City of East Chicago appreciates the continued dedication and service of its employees and thanks them for their commitment to keeping our community moving forward.
City offices will resume normal operations on Monday, October 12, 2026.
