UPDATE - Police Arrest Hackensack Man Wanted for Assault
Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr. reports the arrest of Lee Darryl Harris, 41, of Hackensack, in connection with an assault of a female victim on Friday, September 18, 2026.
“The violent nature of this incident is both heinous and alarming,” Director Miranda said. “Our detectives have worked tirelessly to apprehend this suspect. Thankfully, he was arrested today without incident. I trust that this arrest brings the victim a measure of peace as she continues to heal and to seek justice for this terrifying attack.”
The victim had left work and was walking home from a bus stop at approximately 1:30 a.m. when she saw a Black male watching and following her. As she reached her apartment in the 200 block of Leslie Street, the suspect, who was wearing locs, a black tank top, and blue shorts, approached her from behind. When she turned around, he repeatedly punched her in the face and body, telling her to be quiet. She fought back and screamed, causing the suspect to flee.
Detectives investigating this incident obtained a warrant for Harris’s arrest on charges of aggravated assault and criminal trespass.
These charges are merely accusations. Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
