Updates to the Jersey Avenue and Grove Street construction projects
The cities of Hoboken and Jersey City are providing updates to the previously announced closures related to Jersey City Municipal Utility Authority (JCMUA) utility and paving work on Jersey Avenue and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's (NJDEP) Rebuild by Design (RBD) project on Grove Street.
As part of an updated plan, coordinated between Hoboken, Jersey City, Hudson County, and the NJDEP, the Jersey City paving project will be extended from 14th Street in Jersey City to Harrison Street in Hoboken. Additionally, the planned full closure of Grove Street will be postponed until November to maintain access to and from southwest Hoboken during the construction period.
Additional updates include:
Jersey Avenue: Overnight work to improve Jersey Avenue between 14th Street in Jersey City and Harrison Street in Hoboken, will begin on or about Oct. 14, weather permitting.
The project will include utility connections, milling and paving, and new striping to improve safety and traffic operations for residents, commuters, and visitors. This project will be complete, prior to the full closure of Grove Street.
Work will take place from approximately 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night. During construction, one Hoboken-bound lane will remain open in the work zone. The road will fully open during the day. This project is anticipated to be completed by Oct. 30.
Grove Street: On or about Oct. 14, Grove Street between 18th Street in Jersey City and Observer Highway in Hoboken, will close northbound, into Hoboken, 24/7. Southbound traffic, out of Hoboken, will remain open until on or about Nov. 2, when Grove Street is scheduled to be closed in both directions for the Rebuild by Design flood resiliency project.
Police Officers will be on both sites during construction hours to assist with detours and safety.
