TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Tomorrow’s Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Expected To Produce Flooding

Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., reports that due to anticipated rainfall and thunderstorms on Sunday, October 11, 2026, many streets may be flooded and drivers should avoid them.

Periods of rain, with gusts as high as 30 mph, are anticipated mainly after 11 a.m. Rain and a possible thunderstorm are expected to continue before 2 a.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall.

Director Miranda further advises that due to the potential for flash flooding, intense rainfall, and damaging wind gusts, drivers should avoid the listed locations due to the potential for flooding.

The Department of Public Safety is coordinating responses to burglar alarms, flooding conditions, and other weather-related incidents through the combined use of Police, Fire, and Office of Emergency Management Personnel.

Special attention should be given to unsecured outdoor furniture, awnings, refuse, and building materials. For fire safety, please utilize flashlights instead of candles, should you lose electricity due to this weather event.

For non-emergency weather-related issues, call, 973-733-6000. For emergencies, Dial 911. #newarknj #police #traffic #flooding
