INCIDENT: Road Rage Incident Leads to the Recovery of Illegal Firearms
LOCATION: 14000 block of Showhorse Lane, Victorville, CA
SUSPECT(S): Eric McCovery, 42-years-old, resident of Victorville
VICTIM(S): State of California
SUMMARY: On Sunday, October 4, 2026, deputies assigned to the Victorville Station investigated a road rage incident on La Mesa Road, in Victorville. During the investigation, deputies determined the suspect, who drove a black Jaguar, became involved in an altercation with the victim. The suspect followed the victim to a local gas station, where he brandished a firearm during the confrontation. The suspect left the area before deputies arrived.
Through investigative efforts, deputies identified the suspect as Eric McCovery, a resident of Victorville. On Thursday, October 8, 2026, the investigation led to the service of a search warrant at a residence in the 14000 block of Showhorse Lane, in Victorville.
During the search warrant service, deputies recovered two unregistered handguns and an unlawfully manufactured AR-15-style rifle without a serial number.
Investigators determined McCovery was a convicted felon and was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. McCovery was arrested and booked at the High Desert Detention Center for violations of Penal Code section 245(a)(1) – Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Penal Code section 29800(a)(1) – Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Penal Code section 30305(a)(1) – Possession of Ammunition by a Prohibited Person.
