INCIDENT: Vehicle vs Pedestrian Traffic Collision
LOCATION: Waalew Road / Dale Evans Pkwy, Apple Valley, CA
DRIVER: 70-year-old female resident of Apple Valley
DECENDENT: Mary Wear, 86-year-old female resident of Apple Valley
SUMMARY:
On Friday, October 9, 2026, at approximately 7:55 PM, deputies from the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station and rescue personnel from the Apple Valley Fire Department responded to a vehicle vs pedestrian crash. The crash occurred on Waalew Road and west of Dale Evans Pkwy, in the Town of Apple Valley.
Through investigation, deputies determined the pedestrian, Mary Wear, was in the street on Waalew Road assisting her dog who was struck by a vehicle when she was then struck by another vehicle. The driver stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation. The driver was a 70-year-old female resident of Apple Valley and drove a Nissan Murano.
Wear sustained major injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigative Team (M.A.I.T) arrived and are investigating the crash. It was determined drugs or alcohol were not a factor in this crash. Waalew Road between Corwin Road and Dale Evans Parkway was closed for about four hours while investigators processed the scene for evidence.
