Adams Lane/CR 608 westbound is scheduled to be closed Wednesday and Thursday nights as the bridge over Amtrak replacement project advances.
Beginning at 8 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, October 14, until 6 a.m. Thursday, October 15 and again on Thursday, October 15 at the same time, Adams Lane/CR 608 westbound will be closed and detoured between Route 130 and Route 1. Adams Lane/CR 608 eastbound was closed on August 21 and remains closed and detoured. The westbound closure is necessary to install construction barrier. Local access will be maintained for businesses. The following westbound detours will be in place Wednesday and Thursday nights:
Route 130 northbound to Adams Lane/CR 608 westbound Detour:
• Motorists on Route 130 northbound wishing to take Adams Lane/CR 608 westbound will be directed to continue on Route 130 northbound, back to Route 1
Route 130 southbound to Adams Lane/CR 608 westbound Detour:
• Motorists on Route 130 southbound wishing to take Adams Lane/CR 608 westbound will be directed to continue on Route 130 southbound
• Take the ramp to CR 522 westbound, back to Route 1
The following eastbound detours will remain in place for the duration of the project:
Route 1 northbound to Adams Lane/CR 608 eastbound Detour:
• Motorists on Route 1 northbound wishing to take Adams Lane/CR 608 eastbound will be directed to continue on Route 1 northbound
• Take the exit for Route 130 southbound
• Turn right onto Adams Lane/CR 608
Route 1 southbound to Adams Lane/CR 608 eastbound Detour:
• Motorists on Route 1 southbound wishing to take Adams Lane/CR 608 eastbound will be directed to take the Adams Lane/U-turn exit
• At the traffic signal, turn left onto Route 1 northbound
• Take the exit for Route 130 southbound
• Turn right onto Adams Lane/CR 608
NJDOT has designed the replacement work to be completed in six stages while maintaining westbound traffic throughout construction to minimize impacts on motorists. Once the eastbound side of the bridge is demolished and reconstructed, traffic will shift onto the newly constructed side of the bridge to allow for the demolition and reconstruction of the other side.
The closure and detour of Adams Lane/CR 608 eastbound will continue through project completion in fall 2028. As necessary, Adams Lane/CR 608 westbound will be closed overnight from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. to accommodate bridge construction activities. NJDOT will provide advance notice prior to any scheduled nighttime lane closures.
This work is part of the approximately $11 million state-funded bridge replacement project that will replace the bridge deck and superstructure on the Adams Lane/CR 608 Bridge over Amtrak in North Brunswick. In addition, the project will replace bearings, repair the abutments and wing walls, upgrade guiderail, and construct new ADA-compliant sidewalks. The project requires coordination with Amtrak, Conrail and NJ TRANSIT. Construction is expected to be completed in fall 2028.
