Please be advised that the Northgate Pedestrian Bridge, which crosses Paint Branch stream near The Varsity, was closed on Thursday, October 15, 2026, due to structural deterioration identified during an annual inspection.
The bridge was designed for pedestrian use only. The closure will remain in effect until repairs are completed. Repairs are expected to take a few weeks, but there is currently no estimated reopening date. If repairs cannot be completed, the bridge may be removed and replaced.
Signage will direct visitors to alternate pedestrian routes. Visitors using Paint Branch Trail and Northgate Urban Park are asked to follow all posted signs and stay clear of the closed bridge.
