| Narrative: | |||||
| On August 24, 2026, deputies assigned to the city of Thousand Oaks responded to a residential burglary call in the 10 Block of San Antonio Street in the Newbury Park neighborhood of Thousand Oaks. During the initial investigation, responding deputies learned an unidentified Hispanic male knocked on the front door of the victim’s residence at approximately 1:00 PM. When there was no answer at the residence, the subject left the area. Approximately 15 minutes later, multiple unidentified suspects were captured on video leaving the residence and getting into a black SUV. Deputies learned the suspects had gained entry into the residence through a kitchen window at the rear of the home. During the burglary, the suspects stole jewelry, US currency, and a Ruger handgun. After the initial patrol response, detectives with the East County Investigations Bureau, Commercial and Residential Burglary Unit took over the investigation. Using information from local Automated License Plate Recognition Cameras (ALPR), investigators were able to identify two vehicles used in the conspiracy to commit this crime. Through various investigative techniques and additional ALPR data, investigators were able to locate the two vehicles and eventually locate the suspect who had initially been captured on video surveillance at the victim’s residence. This subject was later identified as (S)Hugo Causil Ramos. On October 16th, 2026, Investigators with the East County Special Enforcement Unit, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Technical Investigations Unit, and the East County Investigations – Commercial and Residential Burglary Unit conducted surveillance and located (S)Causil Ramos as he left an apartment complex in the Van Nuys area of Los Angeles. Causil Ramos was contacted by investigators and placed under arrest after he drove to the11000 block of Otsego Street in North Hollywood. Following the arrest, investigators searched Causil Ramos’ vehicle and located clothing that matched what he wore during the commission of the crime in August. Additionally, investigators served a search warrant at Causil Ramos’ residence and located the Ruger handgun that had been stolen during the burglary on San Antonio Street. The serial number on the firearm had been obliterated. Causil Ramos was booked into custody at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility for violations of PC 459 - Burglary and PC 182 - Conspiracy. Causil Ramos’ bail is currently set at $200,000 and his first court hearing is scheduled for 10/20/2026.
