MOTORCYCLE FATALITY ON FRANKLIN PARKWAY
A single motorcyclist lost his life after colliding with a light pole on Franklin Parkway last evening.
San Mateo, CA – At 5:30 p.m. on Monday, October 19, 2026, San Mateo Police dispatch received a call that a motorcycle had collided with a pole on Franklin Parkway. Another caller advised the same, placing the location at Franklin Parkway just east of Baze Road. Upon arrival, officers found a single motorcyclist lying in the street with major injuries, a crashed motorcycle, and a severed city light pole. Officers and members of San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department attempted life saving measures until medics were able to take over CPR. Unfortunately, the rider succumbed to his injuries.
Franklin Parkway from Baze Road to Saratoga Avenue was closed to traffic for almost 3 hours while investigators worked the scene to determine the cause of the collision. No other vehicles were involved, and the rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. A preliminary investigation and supporting evidence shows that speed was likely a contributing factor causing the motorcyclist to lose control of the motorcycle while riding eastbound on Franklin Parkway causing him to leave the roadway and collide with the light pole.
The victim was a 25-year-old male, San Mateo resident. Our condolences go out to his family and friends.
As protocol, our agency does not release the names of victims as that is done by the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office, and only after next of kin has been notified.
