Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives responded to the 800 block of West Huntington Drive in the city of Arcadia to assist the Arcadia Police Department with the investigation of a fatal shooting.
The investigation revealed that a female juvenile was fatally shot inside a residence after the suspect forced entry into the location. Investigators determined the victim had been in a dating relationship with the suspect, identified as Paul Anthony Cruz Jr., a 20-year-old Hispanic male.
The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. No additional persons were injured.
During the course of the investigation, Pasadena PD officers located Cruz in the city of Pasadena. As Pasadena Police Department officers were preparing to contact him, Cruz sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.
The initial shooting occurred at approximately 11:07 a.m. The subsequent incident involving Cruz occurred approximately one hour later.
