Northeast lawn at Church Square Park to be fenced off

The City's contractor, Let It Grow, will reseed and aerate the northeast lawn and replace trees and shrubs at Church Square Park tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 24, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Following the work, crews will install a 4-foot-high fence around the lawn to prevent foot traffic and give the grass time to establish. Residents are requested to please respect the fencing and not walk on the grass growing in the fenced off area. The fence will remain in place for approximately two weeks.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is tomorrow

The Hoboken Police Department is participating in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, in partnership with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The initiative offers a free, safe, and anonymous way for residents to dispose of unwanted, unneeded, or expired prescription medications. Properly disposing of the drugs can help protect the environment and prevent potential misuse.

Residents can drop off their medications, no questions asked, at the lobby area of the following locations:

  • Hoboken Police Headquarters, 106 Hudson St.
  • Fox Hill Gardens, 311 13th St.
  • John Adams Gardens, 220 Adams St.
  • Monroe Gardens, 221 Jackson St.

Vaping devices and e-cigarettes will be accepted only if the lithium-ion batteries have been removed. Needles, syringes, sharps, aerosols, and compressed gas cylinders are NOT accepted.

Controlled blasting to take place at the Gateway Hudson Tunnel Project in Weehawken

The Hudson Tunnel Project will be conducting controlled blasting operations just north of the Hudson Bergen Light Rail tracks. Test blasting will begin as early as Tuesday,  Oct. 27, with routine blasting expected to start on or about Monday, Nov. 2. The blasting is scheduled to last intermittently through January.

Up to three blasts are anticipated per day, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., each lasting less than one second. Residents close to the site may hear air horn signals before and after each blast.

For more on the controlled blasting operations, and to see a construction notice outlining the project, and for updates on other upcoming activities that may impact residents, go to www.gatewayprogram.org/community-engagement or call the 24/7 construction hotline at 1-800-444-1050.

Hudson River Waterfront Walkway Detour

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) will implement a detour on the Hudson River waterfront walkway at Harborside Park between 16th Street in Hoboken and just south of the Weehawken boundary starting on or about Monday, Nov. 2.  The detour is anticipated to last approximately three months to allow for the installation of drainage infrastructure and new pavers on the walkway, while maintaining off-road connectivity between Hoboken and Weehawken for non-motorized users.

During this period, pedestrians and bicyclists will utilize a temporary shared use path through the future Harborside Park. The detour path will be fenced off on each side to ensure the safety of those using it. Cyclists will be required to dismount their bicycles on the temporary detour path.

JCMUA overnight work to improve Jersey Avenue continues

Residents are reminded that work by the Jersey City Municipal Utility Authority (JCMUA) to improve Jersey Avenue between 14th Street in Jersey City and Harrison Street in Hoboken, continues through next week.

The project, which includes utility connections, milling, paving, and new striping, will help to improve safety and traffic operations for residents, commuters, and visitors. This project will be complete, prior to the full closure of Grove Street, which currently has a lane open for southbound traffic, out of Hoboken.

Work will take place from approximately 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 28 through Friday, Oct. 30. During construction, one Hoboken-bound lane will remain open in the work zone. The road will be open in both directions during the day, and overnight when work is not occurring. This project, including roadway resurfacing, is anticipated to be completed by Oct. 30.
