Halloween Safety Tips
The Rosemead Public Safety Department would like to share some safety tips to keep children safe on Halloween.
Have a Spooktacular and Safe Halloween!
Halloween is a fun time for children and families! As you head out for trick-or-treating, please keep these safety tips in mind to help everyone enjoy a safe and Happy Halloween.
- FOR TRICK-OR-TREATERS
- Stay on sidewalks. Use sidewalks whenever possible and avoid walking in the street.
- Cross safely. Cross at intersections and crosswalks. Look both ways and make eye contact with drivers before crossing.
- Be visible. Wear bright-colored clothing or add reflective tape to costumes. Carry a flashlight or glow stick.
- Choose safe costumes. Make sure costumes fit properly to prevent trips and falls. Use face paint instead of masks that may obstruct vision.
- Stay with your group. Children should be accompanied by a trusted adult. Older children should travel in groups and follow a planned route.
- Inspect treats. Have a trusted adult check all candy and treats before eating them. Avoid unwrapped or damaged items.
- FOR DRIVERS
- Slow down. Drive cautiously in residential neighborhoods and areas where children may be trick-or-treating.
- Watch for children. Be especially alert near intersections, driveways, and parked vehicles.
- Avoid distractions. Put your phone away and keep your eyes on the road.
- Never drive under the influence. Always make responsible choices when driving.
- FOR HOMEOWNERS
- Keep walkways clear. Remove obstacles, decorations, and other items that could cause trips and falls.
- Light the way. Ensure entrances and walkways are well-lit.
- Use safe decorations. Choose battery-operated candles or LED lights instead of open flames.
- Keep pets secure. Halloween visitors and unfamiliar noises may frighten pets. Keep them in a safe, comfortable area.
