Issued: 02:58 PM 10-27-2026

Shelters Opening Ahead of Heavy Rain

Details

Heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms with intense rainfall are expected begin tonight and may continue through Wednesday evening. Heavy rain can cause flash flooding, rapidly rising streams and flooded roadways, sometimes with little warning.

Emergency Shelters to Open at 4:00pm

The City is opening evacuation shelters at the following district parks:

- Waiʻanae District Park
- Wahiawā District Park
- Kāneʻohe District Park
- Mānoa Valley District Park

If you feel unsafe, leave early rather than waiting for flooding to begin, especially if it may become difficult or dangerous to leave after dark. If you live in a flood-prone area or are concerned about your safety, consider moving to a safer location before conditions worsen.

Shelters are pet-friendly. Pets must be secured in a crate or on a leash. Bring your own supplies when going to a shelter, including food, water, medications, bedding and essential items for yourself and your pets.

Stay safe

- Never walk or drive through floodwater. Turn around, don’t drown. Floodwaters can be deeper and move faster than they appear.
- Stay away from streams and drainage channels. Water levels can rise rapidly due to rain upstream, even when it is not raining where you are.
- Avoid flooded roads and follow closures. Never drive around barricades.
- Prepare your household. Keep essential supplies, medications, important documents and a Go Bag ready if you need to leave.
- Watch for brown water. Heavy rain can carry pollutants into streams and the ocean. Avoid swimming, surfing and other water activities in affected areas.

Call 911 only if you are experiencing an emergency or reporting dangerous conditions.

Prepare now, stay informed and keep yourself and your ʻohana safe.
