HALLOWEEN SAFETY REMINDER – TOWN OF BEDFORD POLICE DEPARTMENT
Halloween is almost here! The Bedford Police Department wishes everyone a fun, festive, and safe Halloween. As families head out for trick-or-treating, we ask residents and visitors to be mindful of increased pedestrian traffic throughout the Town of Bedford.
TRAFFIC ADVISORY – PLEASE PLAN AHEAD
Vehicles should avoid the area of The Farms in Bedford Village and The Terrace in Katonah due to expected heavy pedestrian traffic throughout these neighborhoods.
Only local vehicular traffic will be permitted in these areas. The Town of Bedford Department of Public Works (DPW) will post signage to notify motorists of these restrictions.
Safety Tips for Trick-or-Treaters:
- Carry a flashlight or glow stick and wear reflective clothing to remain visible.
- Use sidewalks whenever possible. If no sidewalk is available, walk facing traffic.
- Cross streets at corners and crosswalks, and look both ways before crossing.
- Young children should be accompanied by a responsible adult.
- Inspect all candy and treats before allowing children to eat them.
- Slow down and remain alert, especially in residential neighborhoods.
- Watch carefully for children crossing streets and entering roadways.
- Follow all posted signs and traffic directions, and avoid restricted areas.
- Avoid distractions and never drive under the influence.
- Keep walkways and driveways clear of obstacles.
- Ensure porches and walkways are well-lit.
- Use battery-operated candles in jack-o’-lanterns whenever possible.
The Bedford Police Department wishes everyone a happy and safe Halloween!
