| VENTURA COUNTY, CA: Ventura County Sheriff’s Emergency Services invites residents, businesses, and community organizations to review the draft 2027 Ventura County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan at a public workshop on Wednesday, November 18, 2026, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. The workshop will be held in person at the Ventura County Office of Education (Salons A & B), located at 5100 Adolfo Road in Camarillo, with a virtual option available via Zoom. The workshop marks the beginning of a three-week public review and comment period, giving community members an opportunity to review the draft plan and provide feedback before its submission to the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services for review. Community input is an important part of the planning process, ensuring that local concerns and priorities are considered as Ventura County works to reduce future disaster risks. Updated every five years, the Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan brings County of Ventura, its ten incorporated cities, partner agencies, and special districts together to identify hazards, assess vulnerabilities, and prioritize strategies and projects that reduce the impacts of future disasters. The plan addresses hazards- including wildfires, flooding, earthquakes, tsunamis, drought, and extreme weather- with the goal of protecting lives, property, infrastructure, and the environment. Maintaining an approved plan also ensures the county remains eligible for Federal Emergency Management (FEMA) Hazard Mitigation Assistance grant funding. “Developing this plan has involved a tremendous amount of work and collaboration among our local jurisdictions, agencies, and community partners to identify hazards and develop strategies to reduce future disaster risks,” said Emergency Services Director Patrick Maynard. “Now, as we share the draft with the public, we want to hear from the people who live and work here and build a safer, more resilient Ventura County.” Community members are encouraged to attend the workshop, review the draft plan, and submit comments during the three-week review period. Those unable to attend can watch the meeting recording, which will be posted at ReadyVenturaCounty.org following the workshop. Additional information about participating in the virtual meeting and the draft plan review period are available through the website. Individuals who would like to request language translation or other accommodations may contact Ventura County Sheriff’s Emergency Services at [email protected] or (805) 437-4204. Requests should be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2026, to allow time for coordination. |
