LOCATION: Escondido Avenue and Palm Street, Hesperia

INVOLVED PARTIES:

(3) Mia-Tafi B. Fetu, 9-year-old resident of Hesperia, passenger of the red Honda Civic (deceased)

SUMMARY:
On Monday, November 2, 2026, at about 7:10 a.m., deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department responded to the area of Escondido Avenue and Palm Street, in Hesperia, regarding a two-vehicle traffic collision.

Upon arrival, deputies located both involved vehicles in the northbound lanes of Escondido Avenue, south of the intersection of Palm Street. The vehicles involved were a white 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE50 and a red Honda Civic.

The driver and sole occupant of the Mercedes-Benz, a 19-year-old female from Oak Hills, was transported to a local hospital where she was treated for an injured arm.

The Honda Civic was occupied by a 17-year-old female driver from Hesperia and a 9-year-old female passenger, identified as Mia-Tafi B. Fetu, from Hesperia. The driver was transported to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries. Fetu, who was a rear-seat passenger, sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.

The Hesperia Station Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.  Investigators determined the Mercedes-Benz was traveling southbound on Escondido Avenue while the Honda Civic was traveling eastbound on Palm Street. As the driver of the Honda Civic entered the intersection and attempted to make a left turn to travel northbound on Escondido Avenue, the vehicle crossed into the number one southbound lane of Escondido Avenue. The Honda Civic was struck on the rear driver's side door by the southbound Mercedes-Benz. The impact caused both vehicles to travel in a southeast direction from the point of collision.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation and anyone with additional information is asked to contact Hesperia Sheriff’s Station at 760-947-1500. Callers wishing to remain anonymous should call or text “REPORT” to We-Tip at 844-909-3006.  Online reporting is also available at https://mobile.catapultems.com/sbcsd/Sites.
