Watch for Wildlife: Drive Safely on Bear Valley Roads
The Bear Valley Police Department reminds motorists to remain alert for wildlife on or near roadways throughout Bear Valley Springs. Deer, elk, and other animals may enter the roadway unexpectedly, creating a risk of serious collisions and injuries.
Keep your full attention on driving. Watch the road ahead and scan both sides of the roadway for wildlife. Observe posted speed limits, adjust your speed for visibility and road conditions, and leave enough space to react safely. If you see one animal, watch for others that may follow.
If wildlife enters the roadway, reduce your speed and stop if necessary to avoid a collision. Avoid sudden swerving, which could cause you to lose control or enter opposing traffic.
Viewing Wildlife Safely:
- Do not stop or slow down in the travel lane simply to watch or photograph wildlife.
- If you wish to observe wildlife, use a safe turnout or parking area and pull completely out of the travel lane. If no safe location is available, continue driving.
- Remain in your vehicle and observe from a distance.
- Do not approach, feed, follow, or attempt to touch wildlife, especially elk. Even animals that appear calm can react suddenly and cause serious injuries. Maintain a safe distance at all times.
- Never position yourself between animals or block their path
