LASD Task Force Makes 22 Arrests During ‘Bay to LA’ Street Takeover Enforcement

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Street Takeover Task Force conducted several street takeover enforcement operations over this past weekend.

A large group of individuals traveled from Northern California to Los Angeles County to participate in illegal street takeovers in what they called “Bay to LA”.

22 arrests were made for various criminal offenses such as Felony Conspiracy to commit reckless driving, reckless driving, exhibition of speed, driving with a suspended license, felony evading a peace officer, and felony possession of illegal firearms. 7 vehicles were impounded for 30 days. 74 citations were issued and 22 vehicles were cited for offenses which require a state referee inspection.

Our team is currently conducting follow up investigations to hold those who participated in these illegal events accountable, and to combat illegal street racing  and street takeovers within the County of Los Angeles.

Enforcement operations took place in the Cities of Carson, Cerritos, Compton, Lynwood, Commerce, Lakewood, and the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.

Street takeovers, sideshows, and street racing are maliciously reckless events, endanger lives, and will not be tolerated anywhere within the County of Los Angeles.

Utilizing a vehicle to block a public street while others perform illegal exhibitions of speed is aiding and abetting and will cause your vehicle to be impounded for 30 days. Additionally, you could be charged with a criminal offense.

A conviction for reckless driving or exhibition of speed will result in large fines, community service, and two points from the California Department of Motor Vehicles which will significantly increase insurance rates.

Anyone with information regarding illegal street racing or street takeovers is asked to contact your local law enforcement agency.
