Narrative:

On 11/04/2026, Camarillo Traffic Bureau Deputies responded to a vehicle vs. pedestrian hit and run traffic collision. Upon their arrival, (V) Adult Male was being treated by medical personnel for substantial injuries. The vehicle involved had fled the scene prior to the deputy’s arrival.

Deputies quickly located a video of the collision on a nearby residential security camera. The video captured the collision and suspect vehicle, but it did not capture the license plate. Deputies on scene worked with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Advanced Real Time Information Center (ARTIC) to search the Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system for the make model and color of the suspect vehicle.  An ALPR located near the scene captured a vehicle matching the description and a license plate was quickly identified for the suspect vehicle.

Additional ALPR information was received on the vehicle and it was determined it fled to Thousand Oaks.  Deputies arrived in the area and quickly located the suspect vehicle. Deputies contacted (S) Thanh Mai and took him into custody for violation of VC 20001- Hit and Run causing great bodily injury.

This investigation highlights the usefulness of ALPR data in aiding investigations. The suspect vehicle in this case was identified and located in a different city in under an hour utilizing these tools.
