Notice to Participants in Hoboken's Renewable Energy Program
The City of Hoboken has been notified of a billing error by the previous energy supplier for the Hoboken's Renewable Energy Program, IDT Energy. According to IDT Energy, when the program's fixed-rate term ended in early October 2026, approximately 3,634 customer accounts were incorrectly billed on a final invoice rate that differed from the program rate due to an error in their billing system.
IDT Energy has informed the City that it identified the issue on Nov. 5, 2026 and is taking steps to correct it. All affected customers will automatically receive a refund check for the difference between the amount billed and the amount that should have been charged under the program rate. Customers do not need to take any action to receive the refund. IDT Energy will mail refund checks within the next several days.
The City, along with its energy agent, has requested formal written documentation from the supplier regarding the error and the planned refund process. In addition, the matter has been referred to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities and the Division of Rate Counsel to oversee the corrective actions being undertaken.
Residents who believe they may have been affected, or who have questions regarding their bill, are encouraged to call 866-688-5197 or email [email protected].
The City will continue to monitor the issue and will provide updates as additional information becomes available.
We appreciate residents' patience and understanding as this matter is resolved.
