Media Release from the Camden County Prosecutor Office: Armed Robbery Suspect Charged Following Police-Involved Shooting in Glo Twp

A Blackwood man has been charged following an armed robbery that led to a police-involved shooting at a Gloucester Township pharmacy on Friday afternoon, reported Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Gloucester Township Police Chief Anthony Minosse.

On November 6, 2026, at approximately 4:15 p.m., officers from the Gloucester Township Police Department responded to the CVS located on the 700 block of College Drive in Gloucester Township for a report of a robbery.  Upon arrival, an officer encountered an armed suspect – later identified as 65-year-old Michael Dougherty – actively engaged in a robbery inside of the pharmacy.  During the incident, the suspect pointed a firearm at the officer.  The officer retreated to safety, drew his service weapon, and gave multiple commands for the suspect to drop his weapon.  The suspect then advanced toward the officer.  The officer then fired at the suspect, striking him multiple times.  A second officer helped to place the suspect under arrest and to render aid.  The suspect was transported to Cooper University Hospital for emergency medical treatment.  There were no injuries reported to the officers or any civilians.  Two firearms were recovered by police.  One handgun was recovered next to Dougherty at the scene and another was located on his person.

Dougherty has been charged with one count of 1st-degree Armed Robbery, two counts of 2nd-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, two counts of 2nd-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and one count of 3rd-degree Aggravated Assault by Pointing a Firearm at Law Enforcement.  He remains hospitalized at this time.

The investigation into the robbery is being overseen by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit.  The investigation into the police-involved shooting is being overseen by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Special Prosecutions Unit with guidance from the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office.
