HNL Alert from the Oahu Department of Emergency Management

Issued: 07:31 PM 04-10-2026

City Storm Response Update: Flash Flood Warning Canceled for Oahu

The City and County of Honolulu continues to closely monitor weather conditions and storm-related impacts across Oʻahu after a day of heavy rain. A Flash Flood Warning that was issued by the National Weather Service was canceled at 7:05 p.m. but a Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday, so residents are urged to stay vigilant.

The evacuation notice for Otake Camp has been lifted and no other evacuations are in place at this time. Evacuation buses are no longer operating and TheBus is back on its regular schedule. Route 521 serving Waialua remains fare-free.

First responder agencies will continue to be on alert through the weekend and assets will remain pre-staged. High water vehicles are stationed on the North Shore overnight in the event they are needed.

Road Closures:
Large boulders have caused a full road closure on Kamehameha Highway near Waimea Bay. City crews continue to respond to flooding on roadways and in streams and drainage areas as needed.

Emergency Shelters:
Emergency shelters remain open. Case workers will begin working with occupants starting tomorrow morning to ensure they have a place to stay before any shelters close.

Shelters are open to both residents and visitors and are pet-friendly. Individuals are encouraged to bring essential items, including food, water, medications, and pet supplies. Shelters are operated in partnership with the American Red Cross and houseless outreach providers, and are coordinated through Partners In Care.

For the latest shelter information and updates, visit: www.oneoahu.org.

City Facility Closures:
Severe weather has forced the continued closure of the following City and County of Honolulu facilities on Saturday:

  • All City municipal golf courses
  • The Honolulu Zoo
  • The Tom Moffatt Waikīkī Shell
  • The Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve
  • All City and County of Honolulu Botanical Gardens
  • Patsy T. Mink Central Oʻahu Regional Park
  • Waipio Soccer Complex (closed both Saturday and Sunday)

Parks and recreational facilities, including athletic fields, swimming pools, outdoor courts, and gymnasiums (except those being used for shelters).

City crews will evaluate conditions Saturday to determine whether facilities can reopen Sunday.

The Neal S. Blaisdell Center will reopen for normal operations Saturday.

Transit operations, including TheBus, TheHandi-Van, and Skyline, will operate on normal weekend schedules.

Trash will still be collected, and the City’s transfer stations and refuse convenience centers will be open for business as usual.

Community Assistance Center Operations Update:

The Waialua Community Assistance Center (CAC) and Distribution Hub will temporarily pause operations on Saturday, April 11, and Sunday, April 12.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to stay informed by checking OneOahu.org for road closures, status of City services, assistance, and more.

Residents are encouraged to stay connected through HNL Alert by visiting www.hnlalert.gov or by texting HNLALERT to 888-777 to receive urgent emergency notifications directly on their phones.
