Message from Chief Hover:
In 2025 Amarillo had 16 homicides. In 2026 there have been 10 homicides including the two from early this morning.
Since the March 22 series of homicides, the Amarillo Police Department has increased patrol staffing, and we have received assistance from Randall County Sherriff’s Department, Potter County Sherriff’s Department, and Texas Department of Public Safety.
The investigation into this morning’s events have identified that the suspects have an affiliation with the targeted location and were known to one of the occupants at the party.
In early March, I announced the realignment of the Amarillo Police Department to address two areas of focus, violent crime and traffic safety. The police department will have a focus on proactive policing. We will continue to increase our patrol staffing, increase staffing to our traffic section, and deploy our newly formed Gang Unit. This change takes effect in the month of May.
This criminal behavior is unacceptable, and the Amarillo Police Department and our regional law enforcement partners are committed to the safety of our community. We will continue to relentlessly pursue these violent offenders and proactively address violent crime within the City of Amarillo.
