UPDATE: RFD & Nixle

Riley Fire:

As I learn more about Nixle and through some discussions with Chief Fox, I have created a group within Nixle to send texts and emails to all members. The nice part about Nixle is that we [the officer’s and career staff] can log into Nixle and create one message that will go both to our email and to our cell phones. Your cell phone will only receive a short message that will contain a link to the entire email message. While you have the ability to log into Nixle and change your notification settings, we do ask that you continue to receive messages from RFD both by email and text. In the future, we are going to be using this as we have the other texting programs we have used in the past. The other added benefit is that we now have one program that is reliable to send messages out to all members. We no longer have to try to keep track of everyone’s phone and email on our own in our own email accounts. If you have any questions, please get ahold of me. If you wish, we can also add your spouse or significant other to the list also.

Jeff, Brad, Matt, Rob, J.C., & James: You should have received an email from Nixle to set up your user account. This will set you up to log into the system and send messages to the groups. Please just set up your account at this time. Feel free to look around but be careful so that you don’t inadvertently send a message to 60 some odd people. I will get with each of you ASAP and show you how to send out messages. In the future, more members may have access but I want to start off small with the career staff (James you work enough here lately to be included also).

This is the last email from me regarding Nixle. I think I have a good grasp of it and believe I have everyone’s information imputed correctly. As I said in the previous email, please tell your friends and family to sign up by going to Nixle.com. The only downside to this program to the community is that it is a voluntary program and they have to take the initiative to sign themselves up. So please spread the word. We are planning on doing a press release to the media next week. I am going to get with ISP and the Sheriff's office to see if we want to do a message jointly to spread the word more effectivly.

Have a great week!
Kevin
